2’s Review: ‘Farce of Nature’ is a force to be reckoned with

To be called a force of nature means that one is full of energy, unstoppable or unforgettable. So the same can be said for “Farce of Nature”, the laugh out loud farce written by Nicholas Hope, Jessie Jones and Jamie Wooten.

The hilarious romp is playing out on the Off Broadway Palm stage and it takes place inside the lobby of an old fishing lodge in the Ozark Mountains, of Arkansas (or Mississippi?) to borrow a common line from the show. What makes “Farce of Nature” a force is the ensemble cast of 9 well known veteran actors who grace the stage and keep the show moving.

The show takes place in the Reel ‘Em Inn lodge where the owner D. Gene Wilburn played by actor Michael Weaver, who can’t seem to keep his pants on when he’s hit with the sudden urge for a little action.

Weaver hits all his cues to pull off the funny hypnosis scenes after his wife Wanelle Wilbum, played by actress Jenny Smith, utters five little words meant to help fulfill her desires. Smith is more than convincing as the love starved wife who’s willing to do almost anything to get her husband back in bed.

But it’s actress Lynn Grace who brings a lot of comedy to the show with her character Maxie Wilburn Suggs, the small town’s retired police officer who keeps everyone safe while guarding Chicago mob member Carmine Deluca who is hiding out at the Inn as part of the witness protection plan. Deluca is played by the hilarious Victor Lagarreta, known for his comedic delivery and he doesn’t disappoint in this show.

But as in every farce it’s one case of mistaken identity after another. Veteran Actress ML Graham returns to the stage with charm to deliver the role of Lola Barbosa, a mob boss wife of Sonny Barbosa played by the well known Rob Summers who comes for revenge. And what’s a farce without a little lying, hiding, and disguising with a guy in drag. The fresh faced Dylan Goike wears the dress and wig disguise well, but not well enough to fool his innocent naive smalltown girlfriend Jenna Seal delivered by Rachael Lordwho is convinced he’s having an affair with Lola.

Comedy ensues during every twist and turn of this delightful show. If you’re looking for a night of chaotic laughs then this is a “farce to be reckoned with.”
