Car thief speeding down McGregor Blvd flips stolen vehicle in overnight crash

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The driver in a stolen Infiniti Q4 left the scene of a crash he caused early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department said that the driver was speeding eastbound from McGregor Boulevard to Colonial Boulevard and hit a curb, took out some trees, and landed in the westbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard.

A witness at the scene said they saw the driver get out of the car and flee the scene on foot. It’s possible that a second person was involved in the crash and was hurt as a result, police said.

The car involved in the crash was stolen out of Lee County, police said.

Colonial Boulevard was shutdown as crews worked to clear the scene.

FMPD officers were seen putting evidence into brown bags.

Information about the identity of who was involved in the crash is not known.
