Charlotte County mother escapes Lyft ride with her children after driver ignores GPS

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.– A Charlotte County woman was taking a Lyft to Fort Myers on Monday to pickup her vehicle up from the shop with her two children.

She said her Lyft driver stopped for gas shortly after picking her up. After filling up his vehicle, they drove on the highway for less than 10 minutes.

The woman said the driver claimed he needed to stop at his house to get a different credit card so he could buy more gas.

The woman told him multiple times she didn’t feel comfortable doing that. She also asked him to stop his vehicle multiple times but he ignored her.

The driver turned down a backroad, ignoring his GPS directions.

When the he started to slow his vehicle down while he was approaching a stop sign, the woman grabbed her kids and jumped out of the vehicle.

A representative with Lyft said they have suspended the driver while they investigate the incident. The woman also made a report with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
