Detectives investigate abandoned van packed with 300 gallons of gas at Placida Boat Ramp
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A suspicious van with about 20 fuel drums full of gas was found at the Placida Boat Ramp just after midnight on Friday.
Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s office said they first saw the silver 2018 Ford Transit van next to another car that was possibly disabled on Placida Road.
When a deputy pulled over to help, the van pulled off and was later seen in the boat ramp parking lot on Boca Grande Causeway soon after.
Each fuel drum found in the van can hold up to 15-gallons, totaling an estimated 300 gallons of fuel in the van.
Crews with the Englewood Fire Department are on the scene to help with the hazardous contents.
Detectives continue to investigate the scene and are continuing to search the van.
Officials with CCSO are urging community members to report any suspicious activity, boats, or people.
