Estero looks to crack down on panhandling with new pedestrian safety ordinance

ESTERO, Fla. – The Village of Estero is looking to join Lee County and Bonita Springs in passing a pedestrian safety ordinance that would crack down on panhandling.

The ordinance would be nearly identical to ones passed in Lee County and Bonita Springs. It would ban people from lingering in medians and crosswalks.

It would also prevent any drivers from interacting with a pedestrian on village maintained roads. The village held its first reading of the ordinance on Wednesday.

Estero officials said they plan to pass it at their next village council meeting later in June.
