Forecast: Afternoon storms for your Memorial Day

Yesterday some of us finally picked up measurable rain as rainy season has finally arrived in Southwest Florida. Yesterday the storms were along and slightly east of I-75, but this afternoon rain and storms will be focused right along the coast, so if you have a beach day planned, make sure you know where you can wait out the storms when they arrive late this afternoon.

In terms of when you can get outside for your Memorial Day ceremonies; any time before lunch!

We have an east wind today, which will push the seabreeze (and therefore storms) toward the coast, but it also means a later start to the rain. While a few showers will develop as early as 1-2 this afternoon, the heaviest rain and strongest storms will develop closer to 3 o’clock and linger for an hour or two after sunset. You will still have time to get outside, just be weather aware! It will also be rather warm before the rain arrives, with highs climbing into the low 90s.

The rest of the week features the same pattern. Every afternoon will come with rain and storms, with an east flow keeping the storms along the coast, and our most populated areas.
