Forecast: Winds ramp up Thursday; fire danger remains high

NBC2’s Fire Alert continues for Thursday – Conditions stay the same, so does the fire danger.

Today has the ingredients for a pretty bad hair day thanks to a strong easterly breeze ramping up through the day.

Winds will range from 15-25 mph with some gusts above 30. The breeze will help keep temperatures feeling slightly cooler, but there’s also a big concern with the windy weather elevating the fire risk.

Considering the air and soil are also relatively dry, most of Southwest Florida is under a very high fire danger, which will likely continue for the remainder of the week.

Expect another warm and generally sunny day with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Like yesterday, we’re going to see some cloudy spells from time to time mixed in with the sunshine.

More dry air filters into the areas this evening, which will make for a very pleasant night as lows drop back down into the mid to upper 60s by Friday morning.

The weekend will remain dry and breezy, but the winds will begin to subside some by late Saturday into Sunday.
