Intense bodycam video captures Collier deputy’s daring rescue

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – New bodycam footage from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office shows the lifesaving efforts of good samaritans, deputies, and EMS.

Now, a 51-year-old landscaper in the Pelican Marsh community is alive. The 20-minute video was taken from the chest of Collier County Corporal Pierre Jean.

He was the first to respond to the call for help Tuesday morning. Celestino Palacio was riding a lawnmower tractor in the Marsh Links subdivision inside the community. He was approaching an incline next to a pond off Ivy Pointe Court when he tipped over and fell in.

Palacio was trapped underneath the over 1,000-pound mower, underwater, and was wearing a seatbelt.

By the time Cpl. Jean arrived, after having to get through two neighborhood gates, Palacio was underwater for five minutes. Two neighbors had already been trying to pull it off of him themselves.

After two tries, the three men lifted the mower. Cpl. Jean administered CPR for one minute. Until Detective James Kleinheinz and Cpl. David Donzanti arrived. Det. Kleinheinz took over. Followed by Cpl. Donzanti, whose efforts brought Palacio back to consciousness, despite being trapped underwater for over ten minutes.

Palacio was taken to NCH, then moved to Lee Memorial. Friday night, a Lee Memorial spokesperson confirmed Palacio is in fair condition.
