Man places hundreds of flags along Cape Coral Pkwy for Memorial Day
CAPE CORAL, Fla. — It started with just six flags, and now the display stretches for several blocks on Cape Coral Parkway with 900 flags.
Jeff Verzi wanted to get a simple message out to Gold Star families.
“There’s people out here that do respect you,” Varzi said. “For what you did and what your family member did for us as a country.”
As he lined the street with hundreds of flags, Verzi said his own family was on his mind. His father, grandfather, and uncles all served, as well as his son who is an active duty member of the Army.
“I’ve been putting them up now since 2014,” Verzi said of the flags. “And they represent not just my family members who are deceased members, and are still active in the military, but they represent the whole community of veterans.”
“I just know that if it’s a holiday, a patriotic type of holiday,” Sally Wilson said. “That if I get up and he’s gone I pretty much know what he’s up to do.”
Verzi said he has no plans on stopping, and wants to put flags all over Cape Coral as a sign of support for families who sacrificed.
