Pedestrian hit by dump truck in Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A Port Charlotte man was killed after being hit by a dump truck on Cochran Boulevard near US 41 Saturday afternoon.

The 74-year-old pedestrian was riding a motorized tricycle when the crash happened, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The dump truck, driven by a 42-year-old Port Charlotte man, was going west on Cochran Boulevard, approaching a green traffic signal at the intersection.

The pedestrian was riding south on the shoulder of US 41. Troopers said he tried to make a right turn onto southbound Cochran Boulevard. The dump truck then hit the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene, according to FHP. The crash investigation is ongoing.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the southbound lanes of Cochran Boulevard were blocked off in the area.
