Officials issue burn bans around Southwest Florida in preparation for Memorial Day Weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla.– With dry, windy conditions around Southwest Florida, burn bans are being issued to avoid tragedy ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. Collier County, Hendry County, Cape Coral and North Port are issuing burning bans ahead of the holiday. The bans follow a 900 acre brush fire that destroyed homes in Golden Gate Estates. Cape Coral issues burn ban to limit fire hazard

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Coral issued a temporary burn ban Wednesday to limit fire hazards within the city. The burn ban is in place to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Cape Coral residents, the Cape Coral Fire Department said. It prohibits recreational burns, including fire pits and campfires, and city permitted burns, which includes bonfires and land clearing control burns. Burn ban issued for City of North Port

NORTH PORT, Fla. – A burn ban was issued for the City of North Port Wednesday afternoon. City officials said the Fire Chief for the City of North Port has determined that an “Extraordinary Fire Hazard” now exists due to the extreme drought conditions and the threat of wildfire. Effective immediately, the Outdoor Burn Ban is enacted within city limits. The Outdoor Burning Ban will be in place until city officials rescind it.
