Fire engulfs Golden Gate Estates home

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A fire fully engulfed a Golden Gate Estates home on 6th Avenue South late Friday evening. North Collier and Greater Naples Fire crews responded to the home fire. Witnesses on scene said two people made it out of the home uninjured. A dog died and another one was rescued by firefighters, according to witnesses. I-75 crash in Lee County leaves two injured

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A crash on I-75 near Corkscrew Road in Lee County left two injured, Florida Highway Patrol troopers confirmed. A pickup truck driver and a woman in the truck had minor injuries after the crash. Troopers said the pickup truck was in an adjacent lane to another car driving south on I-75 in the area. The driver of the other car involved in the crash tried to change lanes and didn’t see the pickup truck driving in the center lane, according to FHP. Bear found wandering near Naples homes

NAPLES. Fla. – A 300-pound bear was found wandering near Central Avenue and Gulf Shore Boulevard in Naples. The Naples Police Department is in the area and said the bear was running around residents backyards and going into pools. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is also on scene. Officers said the believe the bear swam from Keewaydin Island and has been going from backyard to backyard. FWC and police have closed 1st Avenue while they work to trap the bear. Prosecutors respond to Mark Sievers’ request for appeal in murder conviction

FORT MYERS, Fla.– Prosecutors have responded Mark Sievers’ request for an appeal in his murder conviction. He filed an appeal with the Florida supreme court back in February. Sievers representation made several claims against evidence and testimony that they said impacted the case. Prosecutors responded, requesting that the court uphold Sievers’ conviction. Sievers was found guilty after his wife, Dr. Theresa Sievers, was found bludgeoned to death with a hammer in the families kitchen. Red tide bloom found on South Seas Plantation Beach on Captiva Island

CAPTIVA ISLAND, Fla. – A red tide bloom has been found near South Seas Plantation Beach access on Captiva. The Florida Department of Health in Lee County said some may have mild and short-lived respiratory symptoms such as eye, nose, and throat irritation similar to cold symptoms. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health will no longer release daily COVID-19 data. State officials said Florida is transitioning into the next phase of the COVID-19 response. Robbery suspect in custody after leading Fort Myers police on canal chase

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A man was taken into custody after leading Fort Myers police on a chase through a canal off of Marion Street near Shady Oaks Park on Friday. The Fort Myers Police Department said the man robbed several homes Friday morning off of Palm Beach Boulevard. Lee County deputies helped officers catch the suspect using drones in the area. Blue-green algae bloom found at Franklin Locks on Caloosahatchee River

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Blue-green algae was found at Franklin Locks on the Caloosahatchee River, according to health officials.
