Forecast: Rainy season finally kicks in

Happy Sunday Southwest Florida! Like yesterday we are waking up to more humid air compared to last weekend, but unlike yesterday, this humidity will actually fuel chances for rain this afternoon! You can still get outside today as the morning will be mainly dry. A few isolated showers are possible near the coast, but the morning is basically going to be muggy and dry. By lunchtime, our seabreeze will start to develop just east of I-75 before pushing toward Lake Okeechobee. This means our best chance for storms will be east of I-75 out toward the Lake during the late afternoon until...

Forecast: Hot with a few storms for Memorial Day Weekend

It’s going to start feeling, looking and sounding a lot more like summer around here over the next few days and into next week, but the good news is we’ve got generally quiet and sunny weather on tap to begin your holiday weekend.  We’ll start out warmer and slightly more humid for your Friday morning with tons of sunshine in store through the day. A few areas of rain and even a storm will form this afternoon but mainly well east of I-75 across Hendry and Glades County.  Otherwise, expect another hot and sunny day with highs on track to reach the low to mid 90s.  Saturday...

Forecast: Mainly dry holiday weekend

Memorial Day weekend looks beautiful and problem free for much of Southwest Florida. The only exception to that will be across the interior, where occasional pop-up showers will be possible each afternoon starting Friday. Otherwise, the sea-breeze will keep coastal spots dry through the holiday with high temperatures topping out near 90. Humidity will gradually make a return, becoming more noticeable into next week. Speaking of next week, models are now in good agreement that a rainy season pattern should set up, as early as Monday. A moderate east wind next week will usher in more...

Forecast: Summer heat returns, but no summer storms…yet

Make sure to look west if you’re out before sunrise this morning! You might be able to catch a glimpse of this morning’s supermoon eclipse, which will end right around 6:35 this morning.  After a pretty comfortable and quiet morning, plan another scorcher this afternoon as high temps touch the mid-90s in most areas. The heat combined with the low humidity will keep the fire danger very high across Southwest Florida, so be cautious and no outdoor burning.  Rain chances will be slim to none today, but we’ll finally get some better rain opportunities by Memorial Day weekend...

Forecast: Dry weather continues, hope for rainy season on the horizon

Our dry weather continues for another day Southwest Florida. While the less humid air is very refreshing, it’s preventing any significant chance for rain. So once again we will have high temperatures climb into the low and middle 90s, with no chance for rain. The dry, warm pattern will persist for the much of the week, but there is hope on the horizon! By the start of Memorial Day Weekend moisture will return to bring rain chances, which should linger into early next week! Until the rain arrives, we have yet another Fire Alert in place across Southwest Florida, with another possible...

Forecast: Dry weather pattern remains in place

Though late May can sometimes be a humid and stormy time of year in South Florida, the next few days feature a weather forecast more typical of mid-dry season. This means minimal rain chances and relatively low humidity combining to keep the region’s wildfire threat relatively high. With this in mind, be sure to do your part and mitigate the risk of any new fires. Use care when grilling outside and mowing the lawn. Don’t park cars in grassy areas and be cautious of where you drive ATVs. If you own a truck, make sure chains are tied up properly and if you are a smoker do...

Forecast: Dry, windy weather prevails

NBC2 Fire Alert extended through Sunday High fire danger continues as dry conditions persist across the area. Our Sunday is shaping up similarly to Saturday. Our humidity remains low, winds remain breezy, and rain chances are nearly non-existent. There will be a few small changes in our weather, but they’re pretty subtle. The first is that our winds are expected to be a touch calmer. Yesterday sustained winds were up to 20 miles per hour, with gusts closer to 30. Winds today will be closer to 10-15 miles per hour. We will still have gusts up to 20 miles per hour, but thankfully...

Forecast: Staying windy and dry Friday

NBC2 Fire Alert extended through Saturday Our windy weather pattern continues today, and combined with the hot dry air this afternoon, the fire danger remains very high for Southwest Florida.  The change in the overall fire danger today is the air will be slightly less humid, which makes it more comfortable outside but also elevates the fire danger.  The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Team continues the FIRE ALERT today and Saturday.  The vast majority of brush fires are man made, so be sure to keep doing what you can to lessen the chance of something starting. Don’t...

Forecast: Winds ramp up Thursday; fire danger remains high

NBC2’s Fire Alert continues for Thursday – Conditions stay the same, so does the fire danger. Today has the ingredients for a pretty bad hair day thanks to a strong easterly breeze ramping up through the day.  Winds will range from 15-25 mph with some gusts above 30. The breeze will help keep temperatures feeling slightly cooler, but there’s also a big concern with the windy weather elevating the fire risk. Considering the air and soil are also relatively dry, most of Southwest Florida is under a very high fire danger, which will likely continue for the remainder of the...

Forecast: Dry & breezy weather continues

Fire danger remains elevated across SWFL for the end of the week as little changes in the overall pattern. After a mostly cloudy day today, more sunshine will return for the end of the week, as high pressure from the Atlantic noses in from the northeast. This high will suppress any rain chances into the weekend and sustain the brisk east winds from the last few days.  Humidity also stays low with dew points only in the low 60s through the start of next week. With drying brush, low humidity, and breezy conditions continuing, fire dangers will stay elevated across the area. Rain chances...
