Clewiston High School teacher’s discovery leads to fitting memorial for fallen hero

CLEWISTON, Fla. – Crystal Drake was working as a substitute teacher inside a classroom at Clewiston High School when an old plaque caught her attention.  The plaque was a memorial for Lee Ford, who graduated from the school in 1966. Red tide loses intensity as it lingers off SWFL’s coast

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Red tide is lingering off the Southwest Florida coast, but the toxic water is losing intensity.  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has reported low to medium concentrations from Collier County north to Charlotte County. Earlier this week, they tested and found high concentrations of red tide near Bonita Beach. Right now, very low amounts are surrounding the Sanibel Causeway and Lighthouse Beach. Construction industry faces worker shortage

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The construction industry is sounding the alarm that it is in the grips of a worker shortage.  The matter is so serious that some companies are turning away work because they can’t meet the demand. It’s the latest problem the industry has had to confront including a shortage in lumber and air conditioning units and parts. Intense bodycam video captures Collier deputy’s daring rescue

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – New bodycam footage from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office shows the lifesaving efforts of good samaritans, deputies, and EMS. Now, a 51-year-old landscaper in the Pelican Marsh community is alive. The 20-minute video was taken from the chest of Collier County Corporal Pierre Jean. Over 3,000 seniors graduate in-person in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Over 3,000 seniors across eight Collier County Public Schools graduated at in-person ceremonies Friday morning. Each student was given four tickets, two for floor seating, the other two on bleachers. This year, ceremonies for all eight schools were also streamed online. Graduates were given caps, gowns, and masks reading “Class of 2021.” The school district decided to cancel proms this year, leaving many to wonder whether graduations were going to follow suit. Man dies after construction accident at Charlotte County marina

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A 53-year old man died after a construction accident Friday morning off of Boca Grande Causeway in Charlotte County. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they were conducting a death investigation after the incident around 9:25 a.m. at Eldred’s Marina, 6301 Boca Grande Causeway. Plane makes emergency landing on Florida beach

PALM BEACH, Fla. – A small plane made an emergency landing on a beach in Florida Friday afternoon. The Palm Beach Police Department said the plane landed at about 3:33 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Ocean Boulevard in the Town of Palm Beach. No injuries were reported, and there are no current public safety concerns. Police officers are on scene in the area coordinating investigative and aircraft removal concerns.
