Shooting reported at Naples mobile home park

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Collier County deputies are responding to a shooting at a mobile home park on Dewey Court and San Marco Boulevard in Naples. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they got a call around 10 p.m. for shots fire at Southwinds Mobile Home Park. No one was injured in the shooting, but deputies are still in the area investigating. FGCU invites 2020 graduates back for in-person Grad Walk

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University is inviting its 2020 graduates to come back for a Grad Walk. The Grad Walk for the Class of 2020 will be held on the first weekend in August at Alico Arena, according to FGCU. The university said the Spring 2021 Grad Walk was a success, and they wanted to offer a similar opportunity for the graduates to return and mark the milestome – this time in-person. Officer reunites missing parrot with owner after it flew out North Port home

NORTH PORT, Fla. – A missing African Grey parrot was reunited with its owner in North Port. The parrot named “Sierra” flew out the window of her owner’s North Port home on May 23, according to the North Port Police Department. Three days later and four miles away, a resident flagged down a North Port police officer. The officer found the bird and had originally seen a Facebook post about a missing bird. 2 dead, 10 missing after boat overturns near Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for 10 people that went missing after a boat overturned near Key West. The Coast Guard confirmed two people are also dead after the crash happened 18 miles southwest of Key West. Units rescued eight people and recovered two bodies from the water at about 1 p.m. Thursday. No other information was immediately available. This is a developing story. New tool being used to kill algal blooms on the Caloosahatchee River

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – There is a new tool being used to kill algal blooms on the Caloosahatchee River. The South Florida Water Management District is now testing Lake Guard Oxy on the river. They demonstrated what it can do to the bloom sitting at the Franklin Lock on Thursday.  BlueGreen Water Technologies created the algae-fighting powder a few years ago. The company has been using the oxy on other lakes in Florida. So far, they said it’s helping clear toxic algae.
