Firefighters respond to car fire in Punta Gorda

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County firefighters battled a car fire on Highway 31 five miles south of Bermont Road Thursday morning. Highway 31 was closed for over an hour while crews worked to put out the fire and clean up, according to Charlotte County Fire and EMS. The State Fire Marshal said car’s catch on fire every 56 minutes in Florida. 14 large lizards worth $35K stolen from Punta Gorda reptile breeding facility

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Fourteen large lizards were stolen from a Punta Gorda reptile facility on Monday night, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The lizards, called tegus, were stolen between 11:15 p.m. – 11:35 p.m. and are worth around $35,000 combined, said Jesse Hardin, the owner of Jesse’s Jungle. At least one dead in Punta Gorda crash

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – At least one person died Tuesday in a crash at the intersection of US 41 and Tangelo Road in Punta Gorda. The crash happened around 2 p.m. between a Fedex truck and a motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Southbound lanes of US 41 are closed at the intersection while troopers investigate. Punta Gorda doorbell camera captures meteor

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.– A Punta Gorda man received an early morning surprise when he checked his doorbell security camera on Sunday. Jason Warner was at work when his phone went off, alerting him his camera picked up motion. “I looked at it and didn’t know what it was,” said Warner. One taken to hospital after Punta Gorda crash involving mutliple cars

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – One person was taken to the hospital after a crash involving at least seven cars in Punta Gorda on Saturday. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the northbound lanes of US 41 are shut down near Burnt Store Road and Jones Loop Road. Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route. Pickleplex officials call for more funding to build additional courts

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.– Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The Pickleplex in Punta Gorda currently has 16 courts which draw in tournaments from all over. However, according to board members, 16 just isn’t enough. “We have been asking for $450k. Punta Gorda’s mask mandate expires this weekend

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Punta Gorda’s mask mandate is expiring Friday at midnight. By the weekend, businesses will decide for themselves whether or not their stores will require masks. “We’ve decided to go ahead and let this sunset on Friday April 30th,” said Punta Gorda Mayor Lynne Matthews.
