Two green sea turtles released after recovering from red tide poisoning

SANIBEL, Fla. – Two juvenile green sea turtles have been recovering at a local wildlife hospital over the past few weeks. The turtles were rescued near Everglades City with suspected red tide poisoning, according to the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation. The turtles were released back into the water. SCCF said its monitoring five green sea turtle nests on Sanibel and 330 loggerhead nests on both islands. Two sea turtles being treated at CROW on Sanibel

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA – Two sea turtles are in recovery at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife on Sanibel. A green sea turtle was rescued on May 21 after it was found floating and suffering from symptoms of red tide. Wildlife experts said the turtle also had a shell deformity that could have been the result of a birth defect or past trauma. Officials warn holes left on Captiva beach endanger wildlife

CAPTIVA, Fla.–Beachcombers on Captiva came across large three-foot-deep holes the sand right off the beach, on Friday morning. Barefoot Beach project paused due to sea turtle nesting season

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Collier County is pressing the pause button on the Barefoot Beach Construction Project because of sea turtle nesting season.  Project Manager Michael Cherbini wanted to replace the pavilions and replace the boardwalk with Brazilian hardwood by Memorial Day weekend but due to nationwide construction material shortages, they didn’t start construction on time.  Originally, crews were supposed to begin construction on April 5 working on the pavilions first, but they did not have the supplies they needed.  Crews were only able to replace the top of the five...

Crew finds first loggerhead nest of sea turtle season on Keewaydin Island

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A team with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida came across the first loggerhead nest of the 2021 season. Saturday marked the first day of sea turtle nesting season, according to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. The 2021 loggerhead sea turtle team was preparing for the official start when they came across the nest on Keewaydin Island.
