Two kids break into Florida home, open fire on deputies
ENTERPRISE, Fla. – A teen girl and a 12-year-old boy are accused of running away from a group home in Florida Tuesday night, breaking into someone’s home and shooting at deputies.
Travis O’Brien, 12, and Nicole Jackson, 14, are expected to face charges after they were reported missing just before 5 p.m. from Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
O’Brien and Jackson, reportedly, ran away from the children’s home before breaking into a residence around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies surrounded the home after a witness called the homeowner who said no one should be in the home and advised there was a handgun, a shotgun and an AK-47 inside, along with a large amount of ammunition, deputies said.
When deputies tried to communicate with the duo they started shooting at deputies firing at least four times before Jackson exited the garage and pointed a shotgun at deputies, investigators said.
The 14-year-old was shot by deputies and injured. The boy was armed with an AK-47 and dropped his weapon after Jackson was shot, according to investigators.
Jackson was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but survived an emergency surgery and was taken to another hospital for more treatment.
“Deputies did everything they could tonight to de-escalate, and they almost lost their lives to a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old,” Volusia County Sheriff Chitwood said. “If it wasn’t for their training and their supervision… Somebody would have ended up dead.”
No deputies were injured in the shootout.
Charges against the pair are pending, according to VCSO.
