VIDEO: Police chase 17-year-old hit and run suspect through the woods

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Just minutes after a 6:30 a.m. crash in Daytona Beach on Wednesday, a teen got out of his car and took off down the road on foot, leaving the other driver at the scene, police said.

The Daytona Beach Police Department Aviation Unit quickly launched two drones, as ground units and K9s went in search of the hit and run suspect.

The drones were able to located 17-year-old Trenton Hunt, who was running through a parking lot on Mason Avenue, police said. Pilots directed the ground units to Hunt’s location where a foot chase ensued.

Drone footage cuts off right has Hunt can be seen hopping a fence and running into the woods. According to the department, the vegetation was too thick for the drone to keep track of him.

The footage cuts to deputies walking Hunt out of the woods. Police said he gave himself up.

Hunt is facing several charges including felony hit and run and driving a vehicle without a driver’s license.

The vehicle Hunt abandoned at the scene was reported stolen out of Port Orange, DBPD said. The Port Orange Police Department is investigating that case.

Paramedics took the other driver – a 78-year-old man – from the scene to Halifax Health Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Hunt was also checked out at the scene and taken to the hospital after telling officers he had low blood sugar.

Both cars were towed from the scene.
