CNN — A “ring of fire” solar eclipse appeared in the sky for some people in the Northern Hemisphere on Thursday as the moon partially blocked out the sun. Elusive bear spotted roaming around Naples area

NAPLES, Fla. – A bear who first was spotted roaming around Naples Friday morning has been seen all over Collier County since. The bear was last spotted at Doc’s Beach House Monday after being seen at the Ritz Carlton Saturday night.  Collier County deputies received a 911 Saturday call saying, “Calling from Ritz Carlton Beach Resort, we have a black bear that’s cornered in our front drive area right next to one of the golf storage rooms.”  Naples Police believe he swam over from Keewaydin Island and began traveling north.  The bear ended up exploring one...

Manatees dying at an alarming rate in Florida

NBC News — Florida’s manatees are dying at unusually high rates this year, and experts said the sustained loss of a key food source is to blame. Every year Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers put out a report showing how many Manatees died, and how they were killed.  FWC’s most recent report, which spans Jan. 1 to May 28, recorded 761 manatee deaths in 2021. Florida scientists find rare bee species in new locations

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Museum of Natural History scientists have found the first nest of Florida’s extraordinarily rare blue calamintha bee and added a new location to its known range: the Ocala National Forest. They also confirmed the insect feeds on a second, but highly endangered, host plant. Florida man tries to throw shark from Naples pier in viral video

NAPLES, Fla. – A Naples Man is gaining attention for all the wrong reasons after a video he was in went viral from Friday night. In the video, it shows the man attempting to throw a shark off the Naples Pier and back into the water. However, it all turns into a disaster when the shark never makes it off the pier and slams onto the ground. Lee County deputy saves sea turtle suffering from red tide

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lee County deputy came to the rescue of an endangered sea turtle after he saw the animal in “obvious distress.” Lee County Sheriff’s Office According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Kyle Hargis sprang into action after a lieutenant noticed the turtle having trouble in the water near the area of Coon Key. SWFL’s algae situation continues to worsen, gunk decaying in Caloosahatchee

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The algae situation in Southwest Florida is getting worse as a bloom decays in the Caloosahatchee River. Algae first appeared in Lake Okeechobee, then at Franklin lock, the Alva Boat Ramp, and now its in Fort Myers at the Davis Boat Ramp. Erosion topples “Darwin’s Arch” in Galapagos

ECUADOR / CNN — The ocean has taken its toll on of the most famous rock formations in the Galapagos Islands: Darwin’s Arch. Fort Myers Shores canal turns green due to algae bloom

FORT MYERS SHORES, Fla. – The water in a Fort Myers Shores canal has turned a shade of green due to blue-green algae. The green stuff can be seen coming down the Caloosahatchee.  “It’s surprising this early in the year to already have that. Naples Park trees to be removed for infrastructure repairs

NAPLES, Fla. – Trees in Naples Park are soon getting the axe due to infrastructure repairs. Collier County Public Utilities continues to revamp the neighborhood’s infrastructure by replacing water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
