Waste Pro to update Cape Coral on trash pickup efficiency

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Waste Pro will be updating Cape Coral officials on its trash pickup efforts on Wednesday.

The company missed nearly 1,200 pickups last month, but the city said that calls for missed pickups have since subsided. Trash pick up numbers for May are still in the works.

Waste Pro blamed their bout of missed pick-ups on a lack of employees, so now they’re trying to hire more drivers to fix the mess that clogged curbs across the city. They hired subcontractors to help catch up on bulk item pick-up.

Division Manager Bill Jones said that hiring drivers, helpers, and technicians is still vital to the revival of Waste Pro in Cape Coral. They’ve been struggling with staffing because there hasn’t been much interest, he said.

Cape Coral officials are still negotiating a fine for missed trash pickups. So far, the company has racked up more than 1.6 million in fines.
