Cape Coral rescinds burn ban

CAPE CORAL, Fla.– Cape Coral rescinded the burn ban on Friday. Officials still ask residents to be careful with bonfires and cooking fires. The flame should be 25 feet from any structure and should not be any taller than 2 feet in height. You should also always have a source to put the fire out, nearby. Recreational fires should never be used for trash. The Cape Coral Fire Department also asks that smoking or lit materials are never thrown outdoors, even from a car window. Collier County schools will not require students to be vaccinated for COVID- 19

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.– Collier County Public Schools will not require students to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. CCPS posted a statement saying “whether or not to vaccinate a child for COVID-19 is the decision of the child’s parents.” This policy does not extend to other vaccines which are mandated by the state of Florida for students to attend public school. Two green sea turtles released after recovering from red tide poisoning

SANIBEL, Fla. – Two juvenile green sea turtles have been recovering at a local wildlife hospital over the past few weeks. The turtles were rescued near Everglades City with suspected red tide poisoning, according to the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation. The turtles were released back into the water. SCCF said its monitoring five green sea turtle nests on Sanibel and 330 loggerhead nests on both islands. 2’s Review: ‘Farce of Nature’ is a force to be reckoned with

To be called a force of nature means that one is full of energy, unstoppable or unforgettable. So the same can be said for “Farce of Nature”, the laugh out loud farce written by Nicholas Hope, Jessie Jones and Jamie Wooten. The hilarious romp is playing out on the Off Broadway Palm stage and it takes place inside the lobby of an old fishing lodge in the Ozark Mountains, of Arkansas (or Mississippi?) to borrow a common line from the show. Four rescued from boat hanging over dam in Texas reservoir

NBC NEWS — Four were rescued from a boat that was caught partially hanging over a dam in a Texas reservoir on Thursday. Austin-Travis County EMS said crews were responding to s dam in the Colorado River near Lady Bird Lake at about 2:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a boat “up against the dam” that “looks like it’s going to go over the dam.” Originally tweeted by ATCEMS (@ATCEMS) on June 10, 2021. Blue-green algae found at Franklin Locks, health alert issued

ALVA, Fla. — Toxic blue-green algae has been detected in the water of the Franklin Locks and local officials have issued a health alert. A sample of water taken from the Franklin Locks on June 7 came back positive for blue-green algae. Blue-green algae are a type of bacteria that can be found in Florida’s freshwater environments. The algae blooms can spread rapidly and will discolor water and even produce floating mats that smell foul.
