LEE COUNTY, Fla. – There is a new tool being used to kill algal blooms on the Caloosahatchee River. The South Florida Water Management District is now testing Lake Guard Oxy on the river. They demonstrated what it can do to the bloom sitting at the Franklin Lock on Thursday. BlueGreen Water Technologies created the algae-fighting powder a few years ago. The company has been using the oxy on other lakes in Florida. So far, they said it’s helping clear toxic algae. Alcohol...

Memorial Day weekend looks beautiful and problem free for much of Southwest Florida. The only exception to that will be across the interior, where occasional pop-up showers will be possible each afternoon starting Friday. Otherwise, the sea-breeze will keep coastal spots dry through the holiday with high temperatures topping out near 90. Humidity will gradually make a return, becoming more noticeable into next week. Speaking of next week, models are now in good agreement that a rainy season pattern should set up, as early as Monday. A moderate east wind next week will usher in more...

Some people are blaming that on the $1,200 a month in federal unemployment that is set to end. The job placement firm Career Source warns that ending unemployment funds won’t solve the labor shortage. Employment experts reveal the problem is much more complex. The worker shortage crisis is affecting more than just businesses. It’s affecting employees too. Bubba’s Roadhouse and Saloon employees like many in the industry are working...
