Electrical hazard causes fire at Fort Myers Beach home

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – An electrical hazard caused a small home fire on Dundee Road in Fort Myers Beach on Wednesday, officials said. Crews responded to the home at 10:30 a.m. to respond to the hazard, which ended up being a fire, according to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department. The home sustained minimal damage because of a Residential Fire Sprinkler System the owners installed during a home renovation a few years back, crews said. Two kids break into Florida home, open fire on deputies

ENTERPRISE, Fla. – A teen girl and a 12-year-old boy are accused of running away from a group home in Florida Tuesday night, breaking into someone’s home and shooting at deputies. Travis O’Brien, 12, and Nicole Jackson, 14, are expected to face charges after they were reported missing just before 5 p.m. from Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Blue-green algae toxins have been detected in the Orange River at Manatee Park. The Florida Department of Health in Lee County issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in the Orange River at Manatee Park. All residents and visitors are being asked not to drink, swim, wade, use personal watercraft, water ski, or boat in waters where visible blooms exist. Sinking cargo ship sparking fears of oil spill catastrophe in Sri Lanka

SRI LANKA / CNN — A container ship that caught fire 13 days ago off the Sri Lankan coast is unleashing one of the most disastrous ecological accidents in the country’s history as it starts to sink, officials said. Since May 20, the Sri Lanka Navy and Indian Coast Guard have been working non-stop to try and prevent the flaming ship from sinking. Cape Coral financial advisor sentenced for over $1 million fraud

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A former financial advisor in Cape Coral was sentenced to five years in prison for defrauding clients. David Rockwell, 45, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for wire and bank fraud, according to the Department of Justice. The court also entered a money judgment of $1,018,000, the proceeds of his wire and bank fraud. Rockwell pleaded guilty on Jan. 14. Rockwell managed investment and retirement accounts for his clients, according to court documents. FSW softball team removed from Southwest flight for not wearing masks

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida SouthWestern State College’s softball team was removed from a Southwest flight for refusing to wear masks. Cyclist & SUV collide in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A SUV and a bicyclist crashed on SW 3rd Street in Cape Coral Wednesday morning. NBC2 crews arrived to the scene near Nicholas Parkway and saw an SUV and bicycle at the scene of the crash. Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department are investigating the crash.
