No survivors found in Florida firefighting helicopter crash

LEESBURG, Fla. [AP] – At least one person is dead after a four-person firefighting helicopter crash in central Florida, officials said. The helicopter crashed into a marsh near Leesburg International Airport during a training exercise around 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a news release. One body was recovered on Tuesday, but no other survivors have been found, Leesburg Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. “The crash appears to be a total loss,” the post said. Waste Pro to update Cape Coral on trash pickup efficiency

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Waste Pro will be updating Cape Coral officials on its trash pickup efforts on Wednesday. The company missed nearly 1,200 pickups last month, but the city said that calls for missed pickups have since subsided. Trash pick up numbers for May are still in the works. Waste Pro blamed their bout of missed pick-ups on a lack of employees, so now they’re trying to hire more drivers to fix the mess that clogged curbs across the city. Fort Myers man suffered severe burns on his feet from hot asphalt

FORT MYERS, FLA.– A Fort Myers man got an unfortunate reminder of how hot asphalt can get around Florida in the summer when he suffered severe burns on his feet. Rob Whyte was preparing to step in the water to dock his boat at the Punta Rassa Boat Ramp in Lee County earlier this month after a fishing tournament. To keep everything dry, he removed his shoes and socks then left them on the boat. He said his grave mistake came when he forgot where he parked his truck. One dead, three missing in Florida firefighter training helicopter crash

LEESBURG, Fla. – A firefighting helicopter crashed into a marsh during a training exercise near the Leesburg Airport Tuesday afternoon, WFLA reports. Four people were aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash around 4 p.m. One death has been confirmed and no other survivors have been located, WESH reports.
