COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Break out the bug spray! Swarms of insects have invaded Southwest Florida. Tiny gnat-like critters have been seen, and experts said the sudden invasion is likely due to the rain Southwest Florida has gotten this week. “When we see a real dramatic change in our weather, and over the past week we’ve gotten rain for the first time in months, and a lot of insects will be cued in on water and as soon as that water shows up, they’ll explode in numbers,” Dr. Billy Gunnels with Florida Gulf Coast University said. Estero’s one-of-a-kind service horse and owner spread smiles

ESTERO, Fla.–It’s not too unusual to see a service dog on the street but seeing a service horse might be a reason to do a double take.  That’s what people along 5th avenue in Naples had to do recently when Ron Chaney and his service pet took a stroll.  “Oh my gosh,” one woman exclaimed as Ron and his horse, Sassy Mae, took a morning walk.  Ron, a purple heart Vietnam veteran, needed a service pet to help him walk. He tried getting a dog, but when that didn’t work out he went with something bigger. “When she came into my life… it...

Rare Sperm Whale fossil found during search for GoPro from Alligator attack

They say fortune favors the bold, but you have to have nerves of steel to go diving in the exact spot where a man was viciously attacked by an alligator just days before.  You might remember amateur fossil hunter Michael Staab from his discovery of a dire wolf tooth a few weeks ago, but what he found while searching for a lost GoPro blows that out of the water.  When diving for fossils, Michael Staab knows you have to be careful. “Every time you enter the water, you are taking a risk. This is not the season to be in the water with Gators.”  So when fellow fossil hunter...

FORT MYERS, Fla.– For FGCU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Michael Fly, recruiting new players to his program over the last 15 months has not been easy.  “The last year and a half really we’ve been recruiting guys and taking commitments and signing guys without ever meeting them in person” said Fly.  At the onset of the pandemic, the NCAA instituted a ban known as a dead period on all in person recruiting. Coaches could not leave campus to recruit while prospective recruits could not visit campuses.  “It’s hard because you’re...

CNBC— Facebook announced on Friday that it will consider allowing former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts to be reinstated in January 2023. The social media platform will decide at that time if allowing Trump back on his accounts will cause a risk to public safety. “We will evaluate external factors, including instances of violence, restrictions on peaceful assembly and other markers of civil unrest,” the company said in a blog post. “If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a set period of time and...
