Cape Coral to discuss spending $1M to keep algae out of your canal

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Before toxic blue-green algae creeps into Cape Coral canals, city officials are discussing putting $1,000,000 towards water quality at a meeting on June 9. Most of the million dollars being discussed at today’s meeting at 3 p.m. would go towards putting bubble curtains into several of the canals in Cape Coral. Bubble curtains create a wall of air and ripples on the surface of the water that prevents anything floating from getting past it. Waste Pro’s pick up progress to be discussed at Cape Coral City Hall

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The City of Cape Coral is expected to give an update on Waste Pro’s trash pick up progress today, June 9. Today’s update will be the first one since the City closed trash drop-off locations that were meant to help Waste Pro catch up on pick ups. Fines for Waste Pro’s missed pick ups are still being negotiated, a Cape Coral spokesperson said. In the trash company’s latest letter to the City, there are signs of improvement. Charlotte County mother escapes Lyft ride with her children after driver ignores GPS

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.– A Charlotte County woman was taking a Lyft to Fort Myers on Monday to pickup her vehicle up from the shop with her two children.  She said her Lyft driver stopped for gas shortly after picking her up. After filling up his vehicle, they drove on the highway for less than 10 minutes. NAPLES, Fla. – Deputies are investigating a possible animal fighting ring in Naples Tuesday. According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, a home in the 2100 block of 52nd Lane SW in Naples is under investigation. Florida DEO cancels contract with Titan Technologies

FLORIDA – Titan Technologies confirmed Tuesday the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has canceled its contract with the company. Titan Technologies, a call center company, was hired by the DEO to help people with their unemployment claims. Those still having a difficult time collecting unemployment may now have an even harder time as the company employed 5,000 people as temporary agents to help Floridians get their unemployment issues resolved. Gator bites woman in Florida neighborhood

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – A woman was bitten by an alligator while walking her dog in a Pinellas County neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), a 43-year old woman was walking her dog along a small lake at Exeter Court and S Cardinal Drive in Palm Harbor when the incident happened.
