Plywood shortage could have many seeking alternative for protection during hurricane season

FORT MYERS, Fla.– For many of us, it’s either plywood or storm shutters to keep windows safe from a storm.  Plywood is traditionally the cheaper of the two options but that isn’t the case this year. Blue-green algae bloom detected in Orange River & two Lee County boat ramps

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – – Health officials have issued a health alert after detecting blue-green algae blooms at Alva and Davis boat ramps and Orange River at Manatee Park. The Florida Department of Health in Lee County issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins at all three locations Tuesday. All residents and visitors are being asked not to drink, swim, wade, use personal watercraft, water ski, or boat in waters where visible blooms exist. Two sea turtles being treated at CROW on Sanibel

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA – Two sea turtles are in recovery at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife on Sanibel. A green sea turtle was rescued on May 21 after it was found floating and suffering from symptoms of red tide. Wildlife experts said the turtle also had a shell deformity that could have been the result of a birth defect or past trauma. Man caught on camera spray-painting Cape Coral family’s Ring camera

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A Cape Coral homeowner said a man was caught on camera spraying his Ring surveillance camera with spray paint twice. The home is located near Pelican Boulevard and SW 44th Street. Plane crashes near Alligator Alley in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A plane went down near Interstate 75 in Collier County, officials said. Two people were on board the single-engine plane that crashed two miles south of I-75 near mile marker 55, according to Greater Naples Fire Rescue officials. IMMOKALEE, Fla. — The Immokalee Fire Control District is in the process of building a new facility. The new building will be on Useppa Drive in Ave Maria. COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The Naples Beach Hotel looks different with no trespassing signs and caution tape surrounding the hotel. The hotel is closed and development is paused due to a new lawsuit, which could delay improvements for even longer. Gregory Myers filed the suit at the end of May. FORT MYERS, Fla.– The Fort Myers City Council has extended Fort Myers Police Chief Diggs’ contract. The contract was set to expire in August. Chief Diggs joined the council meeting through Zoom when he was asked if he would like to stay in Fort Myers, Monday night. “While these are challenging times my commitment to improving the public safety in the city of Fort Myers is unwavered,” said Diggs.
