Bear hit and killed on I-75 near Bonita Beach Road

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – A bear was hit and killed on northbound I-75 near Bonita Beach Road on Friday morning. Officials could be seen pulling the bear to the side of the road. The 23-year-old man driving was not injured in the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The car was traveling down the road when a 200-pound bear tried to cross the interstate, according to FHP. The bear died at the scene. The car sustained some under carriage damage and was towed from the scene. The left and center lanes of the road were blocked as troopers responded to the crash, FHP reported....

Technology could be used to respond to Lee County algae blooms

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee County confirmed a contract with a vendor that could respond to algae blooms if they get bad this year is expected to go before the board of commissioners next month. In 2018, the county partnered with AECOM for a pilot program. Crews launched machines into about a dozen canals hit hard by algae in North Fort Myers and Cape Coral. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection granted the county more than $2 million in emergency funds to pay for it. Crews battle 300-acre brush fire in Golden Gate Estates

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A 300-acre brush fire is burning near Dove Tree Street in Golden Gate Estates, according to the Florida Forest Service. Greater Naples Fire and FFS crews, and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office are all on scene as firefighters battle the blaze. A large plume of smoke was seen in the area. Choppers are up in the air dropping water on the fire. North Collier fire crews are also on scene assisting. No other information was immediately available. This is a developing story. One person taken to hospital after Charlotte County crash

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.– One person was transported to the hospital following a crash on Friday afternoon. The wreck happened near a Goodwill on US 41 between Midway and Ellery Street. Charlotte County fire and EMS crews responded to the scene. One person involved was transported to the hospital for treatment according to officials. After passing away, grandmother surprises grandchildren with uplifting voice messages

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.– Joan Page hadn’t even been gone for a day when her grandchildren opened their email inboxes and made a discovery. FORT MYERS, Fla. – Debbie Steele is a happy, COVID-free woman. On Friday, she dropped off cupcakes for her favorite people at Select Specialty Hospital. “I was here for 2.5 months fighting COVID,” Steele said. Team of Charlotte County detectives take on cold case murders

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Once a murder case goes cold it can be nearly impossible to solve. But the three-man team in Charlotte county said they’ll talk to anyone and go anywhere to find answers.
