Endangered sea turtle dies from suspected red tide poisoning

CHARLOTTE HARBOR, Fla. – A red tide bloom off our coast is suspected to be responsible for the death of the world’s smallest and most endangered sea turtle. On May 14, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle was admitted to CROW after it was rescued in Charlotte Harbor, according to the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation. The turtle was found floating, breathing strangely, and acting like something was stuck in its mouth. Veterinarians suspected red tide poisoning. New video shows plane involved in LaBelle crash flying low near homes

LABELLE, Fla. – The plane involved in a deadly crash in LaBelle was flying low near homes before the crash, new video shows. Michael Stockton, the pilot in the plane, was killed in the crash on May 6. The pilot-rated passenger was seriously injured after the crash that happened right next to a church. The plane departed from LaBelle Municipal Airport before it began a decelerating descent, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Charlotte County public school vaccine event on Saturday

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Students aged 12 to 17 will be able to get vaccinated at Port Charlotte Middle School on Saturday. The Charlotte County Department of Health is offering vaccinations for students 12 to 17 on Saturday, May 22, at Port Charlotte Middle School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Only Charlotte County Public School students will be able to get a shot. 83-year-old woman killed in wreck on Cypress Lake Drive

FORT MYERS, Fla.– Crews responded to a deadly crash on Cypress Lake Drive near FSW, Thursday evening. An 83-year-old woman from Saint Charles, Illinois was killed in the crash. A 65-year-old woman survived after she was saved from the wreckage by a good Samaritan. The westbound lanes of Cypress Lake Boulevard between Winkler and Summerlin were closed while crews investigated. FWC trappers have busy month wrangling gators in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla.– FWC trappers have been busy capturing gators this month. One person ejected in two car crash at Gladiolus Drive and Winkler Road

FORT MYERS, Fla.– One person has been transported to the hospital following a crash on Gladiolus Drive and Winkler Road. Two cars were involved in the crash on Thursday night. One passenger was ejected from the car before being transported to the hospital for treatment. Crews from Iona-McGregor Fire responded to the scene. The eastbound lanes of Gladiolus Drive and the southbound lanes of Winkler Road are closed while crews respond to a crash. The lanes will be shut down for around two hours. Collier County officials accused of running child prostitution ring out of Naples Airport

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.– The mayor of Naples has accused some Collier County officials of operating a child prostitution ring out of the Naples Airport, according to a city employee. NBC-2 has obtained an ethics complaint that was filed by the employee. According to the 7-page complaint, the current Naples Mayor believes the former mayor and the sheriff were running a child sex ring out of the Naples Airport. Online petition started to ban commercial boats at Cayo Costa dock

CAYO COSTA, Fla.– Hundreds of people have signed an online petition for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to stop allowing commercial boats at a dock on the south side of Cayo Costa.The island is nestled between North Captiva Island and Boca Grande, only accessible by boat.
