Forecast: Dry weather prevails for your Tuesday

*NBC2’S Fire Alert has been extended through Tuesday, May 18th. Same forecast, different day. We are in desperate need of rain as we once again have issued a Fire Alert for Southwest Florida. The lack of rain, low humidity, and breezy winds are all again feeding into our high brush fire risk, and until we get a significant increase in humidity or decent accumulation of rain, we are going to be talking about Fire Alerts and brush fires nearly every day. Today, on top of the dry weather, we will have mainly sunny skies with high temperatures into the low 90s. A very subtle uptick...

WATCH: Plane caught on video getting very close to Marco Island beach

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.– A plane was caught on video getting close to the beach and buildings near Marco Island.  According to Naples Control Tower officials, planes must be 1,000 feet over structures or people in populated areas. Over the water on the other hand, there isn’t a limit. When someone breaks the rules, things are then handed over to the FAA. The plane caught on video is owned by Icon Aviation and it is also registered to the company. We reached out to them but we haven’t heard back. Before work begins, the county is tasked with clearing out any trees or landscaping that blocks access to the underground pipes.  Last week, the county spray painted trees that will be removed with orange...

FORT MYERS, Fla.– Blue-green algae is back with a vengeance.   “The algae is thriving because the conditions are just right for them,” said FGCU Water School Professor, Barry Rosen. Rosen is working with his students to collect samples of the bloom to study. “The rainy season will come which will give us a flush off the land which could stimulate the growth but also during the rainy season it becomes much more turbulent. The water will get stirred up, they’ll get moved out of the light and they don’t do as well,” said Rosen. Over the course of the next several...
